Diamond Styles Explained

Diamond shapes define the overall geometry and form of a diamond. From the popular Round to the more unique Marquise, each shape offers distinct characteristics appeal.

There are two major groups for diamond shapes: Round diamonds and 'fancy' shapes diamonds. Round shape, or round brilliant cut, is the most popular and traditional cut by a considerable margin. That is why round shapes have always been their own category.

There are also several fancy diamond shapes, such as pear, heart and trillion-shaped diamonds. Each shape has its own appeal and the choice is down to your own personal preference.

Diamonds may also be categorized into brilliant cut and step cut diamonds. Brilliant cut diamonds contain many more facets than step cut diamonds and are often triangular or kite shaped leading to a maximum sparkle effect. Brilliant cut shapes include round diamonds and cushion cut diamonds. Step cuts contain fewer facets and the facets are cut symmetrically and straight leading to a more minimalistic look, diamonds in this category include emerald cut and asscher cut diamonds.

Diamond shapes define the overall geometry and form of a diamond. All shapes have different proportions and reflect light differently and can be selected to compliment the overall design of your ring.
